ACTIVITIES IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF THE PROJECT

SoilWise is reshaping access to European soil data by collaborating with stakeholders and employing Al and ML techniques to create a sustainable, open, and modular knowledge repository. This approach ensures data privacy, ownership, and accessibility while supporting the evolution of the European Soil Observatory for at least a decade.

Since month 1 of the project, SoilWise has been creating a user story matrix, collecting external stakeholders’ contacts throughout various events, as well as gathering inputs from internal stakeholders.
In the first 4 months of the project, the main scope of SoilWise was to create usage scenarios for the benefit of all stakeholders who will be using the Soilise Repository.

>>> EUSO STAKEHOLDER FORUM AND WORKING GROUP MEETING

On the 17th of November 2023 SoilWise project presented its main scope – The development of a data infrastructure for the EU Soil Observatory at the 3rd EUSO Stakeholder Forum, an annual event organised by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) whose purpose is to actively engage and exchange with the soil community, from policy makers and scientists to local actors, civil society representatives and citizens.

The 3rd EUSO Stakeholders Forum took place online and the main topics were: soil pollution, soil data sharing, soil monitoring, soil erosion, soil carbon, and soil biodiversity.

>>> EU SOIL WEEK - MADRID

The European Mission Soil Week took place in Madrid, Spain on 21-23 November 2023. With the participation of SoilWise, it gave visibility to the importance of soil data, restoration and monitoring, and the main outcomes of the project. The event brought SoilWise closer to the future users of the SoilWise Repository, as well as opened new opportunities for future collaborations.
