SoilWise project is entering an exciting new phase! While working toward the completion of the second of its three development phases, we’ve built a solid foundation: harvesting metadata and knowledge from a diverse range of open repositories, improving metadata management, refining the catalogue’s user interface and search functionality, developing the chatbot prototype, and strengthening communication and feedback channels.
As we move into the second Integration and Validation phase in 2026, our goal is simple: make soil data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) so it can support smarter decisions for researchers, policymakers, landowners, farming professionals, and the wider business community and testing the tools to do so with the community.
By March 2026, a new prototype of the SoilWise Catalogue will be ready for demonstration to stakeholder groups. This is the final opportunity for stakeholders to influence a product that will be integrated into EuropeanSoilObservatory. Feedback from these sessions will directly determine the final iteration of SoilWise, shaping its functionality, usability, and long-term impact across Europe.
In the months ahead, we’re excited to focus on:
🔸refining and expanding the SoilWise Catalogue to make soil data easier to find, access and publish
🔸engaging stakeholders through webinars, demonstration and training sessions
🔸strengthening collaboration across MissionSoil projects and the wider soil research community
🔸supporting EU soil policy frameworks with easier access to knowledge, including the SoilMonitoringLaw and the EuropeanSoilObservatory
🔸advancing standardized soil vocabularies and workflows to maximize findability, reusability, interoperability and collective impact
We move forward with energy, curiosity, and a shared commitment to transforming FAIR principles into knowledge that drives better decisions for soil health.
